since the beginning of this year, trade and investment between china and asean have bucked the trend of growth. china and asean are each other's largest trading partner and important investment partner. the two sides enjoy strong industrial complementarity, as well as broad space and great potential for cooperation. in addition, the global covid-19 epidemic highlights the importance of regional cooperation, closer distance between production base and consumer market is more conducive to avoiding industrial chain risks and promoting regional economic cycle.
with the help and support of the council, the china-asean business council and icap strategic cooperation agreement will accelerate trade and investment cooperation with asean member countries, and at the same time help more chinese private enterprises to enter asean member countries through the cooperation platform of the council and icap.
cabc is one of the five dialogue and cooperation mechanisms between china and asean, and it is a cooperative dialogue mechanism between the business communities of china and asean. in april 1997, china council for the promotion of international trade (ccpit) and asean chamber of commerce and industry (asean cci) jointly signed a memorandum of cooperation in shanghai to prepare for the establishment of china-asean business council. on november 6, 2001, at the 5th china-asean summit, china and asean reached consensus on the establishment of china-asean free trade area. on november 8, the inaugural meeting and the first meeting of the china-asean business council were held in jakarta, indonesia. the then chinese premier zhu rongji and the then indonesian president megawati sukarnoputri attended the inauguration ceremony and announced the formal establishment of the council. at the same time, the first meeting of the council was successfully held in jakarta.
